Days 11-12
Learning Targets - Students will be able to...
- Describe and compare biological, behavioral, cognitive,
and sociocultural perspectives
- Summarize the evolution of modern psychological perspectives
Opener - What developments in modern society, beginning in the 1800's, might have encouraged research and growth of psychology?
Activity #1 - Mini-lecture pt 2 on "Modern Perspectives"
- Students are introduced to the concepts of structuralism, functionalism, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, and Gestalt psychology.
A brief, though very basic, overview of these theories can be found here:
https://www.simplypsychology.org/perspective.html
Activity #2 - Talking Heads - "Famous saying that were never said"
- Based on your understanding of each of the pioneers of psychology, create a list of quotes that each might have said that illustrate their ideas. For example: "There is no difference in how a rat learns to navigate a maze than how a child learns proper manners."
- You should create at least 3 false quotes for each pioneer/perspective and then pair up with a classmate and read them aloud to see if they can accurately identify which pioneer/perspective it represents.
Close - Student created "Psychology Today" presentation and questions.
