Opener - Using Maslow's Hierarchy from last class, how would your classify each of the following scenarios? In other words, which level of need is being filled?
1. Jane decides to join an online dating service in hopes of forming a new relationship.
2. Tommy posts a pic of himself on InstaChatFace receiving "All-Conference" honors at the end of the season.
3. Sally buys her best friend a scarf for her birthday
4. Jason decides to stay at another hotel after he sees that the first hotel that he tries to check into has a cage built around the front desk.

Activity #1 - Mini-Lecture - Stimulus Motives
- Stimulus Motives are our desires for stimulation of senses, general activity, exploration and/or manipulation of our environment
- What stimulus motives do "couch potatoes" seek? What about those who participate in extreme sports?
- Achievement Motivation is used to explain why some people are driven to "get ahead" or set high personal standards for themselves
- What fuels these people with high achievement motivation?
- Extrinsic Rewards are those desirable reinforcers that are introduced by outside actors.
- Grades, money, fame, and even respect
- Intrinsic Rewards are the positive feelings that someone gets for reaching a goal or other positive actions
- These are often thought to motivate those seeking "Self-Actualization"
- Make a list 4 daily/routine tasks.
- Briefly explain how each task is motivated by intrinsic or extrinsic rewards.
- Make a list of 4 impactful moments in your life in which you did something meaningful.
- Briefly explain how each task is motivated by intrinsic or extrinsic rewards.
